About this gpa calculator

Grade Point Average is a credit-weighted average of your grade points. A grade in a 4-credit course counts twice as much as the same grade in a 2-credit course, because it represents twice the academic effort. The calculator weights everything automatically — you just enter credits and grades.

There are two common scales. The 4.0 scale (used in the United States and many international universities) maps letter grades A through F to numerical values. The 5.0 scale is used by many South Asian and Australian institutions and has a slightly different grade-to-point mapping. Pick the scale your institution uses.

For cumulative GPA across multiple semesters, list every course from every semester. The calculator weights each course by its credit count, exactly as your transcript does. You can include or exclude pass/fail and audit courses depending on whether your institution counts them.

How to use it

  1. Pick the grading scale (4.0 or 5.0).
  2. Add each course with its credit count and letter grade.
  3. For cumulative GPA, include courses from every relevant semester.
  4. Read the GPA and total credits.

Tips & notes

  • For target GPA planning, work backward — what grades do you need in the remaining courses to hit a goal?
  • Verify with your institution registrar — some schools use slightly different grade-to-point mappings.
  • Save the input list somewhere if you need to re-run later. The calculator does not persist data.

Frequently asked questions

Which scale should I use?

Whichever your institution uses. US and Canadian universities mostly use 4.0; many Bangladeshi, Indian and Australian universities use 5.0. Check your transcript or contact your registrar.

Do pass/fail courses count?

It depends on your institution policy. Many exclude pass/fail from GPA calculation; some count "pass" as a specific grade point. Check before including or excluding them.

How is cumulative GPA different from semester GPA?

Semester GPA is just one semester; cumulative GPA is every course you have ever taken. Cumulative GPA changes more slowly because it includes more courses.
