About this png to jpg converter

PNG and JPG are the two dominant image formats on the web. PNG uses lossless compression and supports transparency — ideal for graphics with sharp edges, logos and screenshots. JPG uses lossy compression that excels at photographs — file sizes are 5–10× smaller than the equivalent PNG, with no visible quality loss for photographic content.

Converting PNG to JPG is most useful when you have a photographic PNG (often from a camera that defaults to PNG, or from a screenshot of a photo) and you want to reduce its file size for web upload or email attachment. The quality slider controls how aggressively JPG compresses — 90% is a good default; below 70% starts producing visible artifacts.

JPG does not support transparency. Any transparent pixels in the PNG become white in the JPG output. If you need to keep transparency, use the PNG Compressor or convert to WEBP instead.

How to use it

  1. Pick a PNG file (drag-and-drop or click to browse).
  2. Adjust the quality slider — 90% is a good default for most photos.
  3. Click Convert to JPG.
  4. Click Download JPG to save the converted file.

Tips & notes

  • For photographs, JPG at 85–90% quality is visually identical to the PNG at a fraction of the size.
  • For graphics with sharp edges (logos, screenshots), PNG is usually better — JPG compression introduces artifacts around hard edges.
  • If the PNG has transparency, those areas become white in the JPG output. Use a tool that supports WEBP or AVIF if you need both transparency and good compression.

Frequently asked questions

Is the image uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. Your image never leaves your device.

What is a good quality setting?

85–90% for most photos. Higher than 95% gives diminishing file-size returns; lower than 70% becomes visibly worse.

Why is my JPG larger than the PNG?

PNG can be smaller than JPG for graphics with limited colours (logos, screenshots, line art). For those, keep the PNG. JPG only helps with photographs.
